Rust Prevention During Monsoon: Protecting Steel Stock and Finished Goods

Every monsoon, factories rediscover the same lesson: machined and plated inventory that survived summer perfectly develops white rust and flash rust in weeks. Above roughly 60% relative humidity, condensation cycles on cold steel make corrosion continuous rather than occasional.

For raw and machined steel

Dewatering rust preventive oils displace moisture and leave a thin protective film — grade selection trades film life against ease of removal before the next operation. VCI (vapour corrosion inhibitor) papers and bags protect boxed parts without any coating at all, ideal for parts that must stay oil-free.

For plated and passivated parts

Zinc-plated parts with thin blue passivate are the most vulnerable — specify thicker passivate or add a top-coat sealer for monsoon-season production. Store cartons off the floor, away from walls, and avoid plastic wrap that traps condensation against parts.

For storage tanks and structures

Surface rust on structures converts economically with a rust converter before repainting — full blasting is rarely justified for maintenance painting.
