Mineral acids are the highest-volume chemicals most factories buy, and the purchase looks simple until a consignment is held up for documentation or a carboy arrives leaking. Here is how experienced buyers de-risk acid procurement.

Packaging tiers

35–50 kg HDPE carboys suit most consumption patterns and handle safely with basic equipment. 200 L drums cut per-kg cost for steady users. Tanker loads make sense above roughly 5–10 MT per delivery for plants with proper storage tanks and unloading arrangements.

Compliance in transit

Acids are dangerous goods: consignments need proper labelling, TREM cards, and transporters licensed for hazardous cargo. A supplier who handles this documentation as routine — rather than treating it as your problem — is worth a margin premium.

Concentration and grade

Commercial HCl is 30–33%, sulphuric 98%, nitric 60–68% — verify concentration on the COA, since dilute material priced as concentrate is a classic trap. For pickling, commercial grade with a good inhibitor beats over-specified pure acid on both cost and steel protection.
