Industrial Cleaning Chemicals: Matching Cleaner to Soil

Factories overwhelmingly clean with whatever they've always used — and then over-scrub, over-heat or over-dose to compensate for a chemistry mismatch. Cleaning selection is simple when you start from the soil, because every soil class has a natural enemy.

The matrix

Oils, greases, drawing compounds → alkaline cleaners (saponify and emulsify) or solvent degreasers (dissolve) where water is unwelcome. Scale, rust, mineral deposits → acidic cleaners with inhibitors. Biological films, algae → oxidising or biocidal chemistry. Mixed light soils on sensitive surfaces → neutral cleaners. Precision geometry with trapped soils → ultrasonic with a low-foam formulation.

Concentration is a cost lever

Most cleaners work at 3–8% dilution; shops running 'a bit extra for safety' pay double chemistry cost for slower rinsing and more effluent load. A titration kit and a dosing chart usually cut cleaning chemical spend 20–30% in the first quarter.
